Chris is Gridworks’ CEO.  He was previously Interim CEO and Head of Business Development, having joined the business when it was founded in 2019. With a career spanning Africa, Asia, and Europe, Chris has extensive experience in international project development, mergers and acquisitions, and infrastructure finance.  He began his career as a private practice lawyer advising a wide range of institutional investors before joining Gridworks’ parent company, British International Investment, in 2014.  He was involved in the strategy which led to Gridworks’ formation in 2019 and has served on Gridworks’ senior management team since, leading its project development and investment activities.   He sits on the Boards of several of its portfolio companies including Amari Power Transmission, Anzana Electric Group and Sustainable Power Solutions.

Mark is Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for all financial matters at Gridworks. He is a chartered accountant with over 20 years’ experience, most recently as CFO for a private investment firm focusing upon Logistics Real Estate and venture capital investments. Prior experience includes roles at KPMG, BNY Mellon and Barclays Capital. Mark has an MEng degree in Civil Engineering from Nottingham University.

Joe is the Technical Director at Gridworks. He is an electrical engineer with over 30 years’ global experience in utility management, project delivery and power system design, operation and maintenance. Most recently he worked in Ghana for ESB International as Engineering Technical Advisor. Previous experience includes providing technical assistance for the restructuring of the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company; six years as Head of Engineering, Technology and Innovation at Mainstream Renewable Power; and five years as General Director of Georgia’s National Transmission Utility in Tbilisi.

David leads Gridworks’ development of Moyi Power, a greenfield utility in the Democratic Republic of Congo. David has extensive experience in the development and financing of electricity infrastructure projects in Africa, particularly Francophone Africa, as well as in Europe, Eastern Europe & India. Prior to Gridworks, he was a founding partner in the African Renewable Power Fund; a Regional Director for eleQtra/InfraCo Africa; and had over 20 years’ experience with AES Corp, including as Head of Project Finance for AES Sonel, Cameroon’s national utility. David has a London Business School MBA and a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Western Australia.

Shaun is Co-Head of Business Development at Gridworks. Shaun previously worked at CDC Group as part of the Equity Infrastructure team, prior to which he worked at PwC, primarily advising infrastructure clients across East and West Africa. Shaun supported the development of the CDC strategy that underpinned the formation of Gridworks and brings specialist knowledge in electricity transmission and distribution (on and off-grid). Shaun holds an MSc in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College, London and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.

Amol is Co-Head of Business Development at Gridworks. He has extensive experience in infrastructure investments and asset management in South Asia and Africa. He has previously worked at organisations such as Blackrock, J.P.Morgan, the CDC Group, the Blackstone platform Zarou and the Lion's Head Group across New York, Mumbai and London. His notable achievements include leading the set-up of one of India's largest wind power platforms, Leap Green Energy, for J.P.Morgan and that of the South Asia renewables platform, Ayana, for the CDC Group. Amol holds a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering from V.J.T.I (Mumbai), a Master's in Engineering Management from Dartmouth College and an MBA with Distinction from Oxford University.

Bruno is the Project Director for LTEC in Mozambique. Bruno was previously the Project Coordinator for the Temane Transmission Project – a 550 km transmission line project in Mozambique financed by several international donors and investors, which will reach commissioning soon. Bruno is an electrical engineer by training and has more than 20 years working on infrastructure projects, including 15 years in Mozambique.

Loic is a Business Development Director at Gridworks. He joined Gridworks in 2020 and supports the development and execution of investments. Prior to this role, Loic was at GE Energy Financial Services, structuring and executing financial solutions for power and renewables projects in Europe, Africa and Latin America. Prior to this he worked at Albioma, a Paris-listed IPP, where he focused on Project Finance and M&A transactions. Loic holds a MSc in Management from EMLYON Business School.

Eric is the Country Director at Gridworks, based in Kampala, Uganda. He joined Gridworks in January 2022 and supports the development and execution of investments in the region. Prior to this role, Eric was the Country Director of the UK’s Department for International Trade, Uganda where he supported UK companies deliver large infrastructure projects. Eric holds an MBA from the University of South Wales, PGDip in Project Finance (Middlesex University), PGDip in Management and International Trade and a Bachelor’s in Engineering.

William is a Chartered Engineer with over 25 years’ international experience in project development, design, construction, operation and maintenance for complex networks infrastructure and renewable projects. Prior to Gridworks, William worked in a variety of senior management roles at the Electricity Supply Board (ESB), an Irish national energy utility. William holds a B.Eng (Hons) and Ph.D from the University of Aberdeen and University College Cork respectively.

Louiza is an ESG Specialist with over 15 years of experience working in Africa and Asia. She was the first Business Integrity Manager for Unilever East Africa, where her responsibilities covered the multinational’s tea plantations in Kenya and their manufacturing and distribution sites in East Africa. In the last five years Louiza has been with IBIS E&S Consulting where she has principally worked with financial institutions including British International Investment, IFC, EIB, PROPARCO, Swedfund and DI Frontier. She has also worked in the public sector with the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights.

Phoebe Sullivan is Head of Partnerships at Gridworks, driving strategic relationships that support the company’s growth and impact. Prior to joining Gridworks, she spent nine years with USAID’s Power Africa initiative, first overseeing development partnerships and then managing the West Africa portfolio, delivering technical assistance and transaction advisory services to public and private sector stakeholders in over 20 countries.

Sabri is an Associate Director for Gridworks' Moyi Power project. Sabri brings experience in utilities in Africa, financial modelling and investment asset management and valuation. Most recently, Sabri worked for Meridiam on global infrastructure projects with complex analytical needs. Sabri’s earlier career saw him working at SUEZ/LYDEC and ICEA. He also gained specific renewable energy experience from his time at RES and Natixis. Sabri holds a Master’s in General Engineering from Ecole des Mines de Nancy.

Adel is a Manager in the Business Development team at Gridworks. He focuses on developing transmission, distribution, and distributed renewable energy opportunities and supports with the management of Gridworks’ existing portfolio. Adel brings specialist knowledge in renewable energy (on and off-grid), energy efficiency, and utilities in Africa. Most recently, Adel spent three years at Cygnum Capital leading the origination, structuring, and execution of innovative climate finance transactions within the Africa Go Green Fund. His previous experiences include advising the regulator and power utilities and developing Premium Grids in Nigeria, and he has held positions at the UK Green Investment Bank and Bloomberg New Energy Finance. Adel holds an MSc in Sustainability and Social Innovation (Energy and Finance track) from HEC Paris.

Caroline is a Manager within the Business Development team at Gridworks. She supports the team in the structuring and execution of investments. Prior to this role, Caroline worked at Credit Agricole CIB for over 3 years in the Energy and Infrastructure Project Finance department, structuring and advising on the financings of large infrastructure and energy projects in Europe. Caroline holds a Master's in Applied Economics and Financial Engineering from Paris Dauphine University.

Yassine is a Business Development Executive at Gridworks. He works on our Moyi Power project, as well as several other projects we have under development. Before joining us, Yassine worked in the Project Finance department of Nareva Holding, an energy and water developer in Morocco. During his three years there, he contributed to the financing and development of energy generation and desalination projects in the region. Prior to that, Yassine worked as a strategy consultant for OCP, focusing on energy and industrial projects. Yassine holds an engineering degree from EMINES, the School of Industrial Management of the University Mohammed VI Polytechnic.

Richard is General Counsel at Gridworks. His role includes corporate operational matters as well as supporting Gridworks’ investment activities in a legal capacity. Richard previously worked at Clifford Chance LLP specialising in private equity transactions. During his time at Clifford Chance, Richard worked on a number of African infrastructure projects and emerging market transactions, including while on secondment to CDC Group. Richard is a qualified lawyer.

Rhyddid is Gridworks' Head of Communications and has worked in international development and impact investment for over 15 years. A former Communications Manager for CDC Group, he previously worked for UK Government ministers at the Department for International Development and Department for Trade and Industry, and for a senior Member of Parliament. Rhyddid has a degree in Economics and Politics from the University of Bristol.

Alice is a Development Impact Advisor for Gridworks. She has worked in international development and impact investment for more than 30 years and works with several funds and companies to help them articulate, measure and maximise their impact. Alice’s other roles include Independent Chair of the CDC Plus Committee; Trustee of the Shell Foundation; and Chair of Investor Watch, which aims to drive more sustainable investment practices. Alice has an MA in Economics from Cambridge University and is a chartered accountant.

Raman is the Finance Manager at Gridworks, directly supporting the CFO, Mark Richards, with all financial and accounting matters. She previously worked at BNY Mellon for over 10 years where she held various finance roles within both the Investment Management and Asset Servicing divisions. Her most recent role involved working as a Finance Business Partner focusing on financial planning, analysis and strategic initiatives within Europe, Middle East and Africa regions. Raman holds a BSc in Mathematics from City, University of London.

James is Gridworks’ Corporate Governance Adviser. He provides company secretarial and corporate governance support to Gridworks’ board and committees. James is a chartered company secretary and Fellow of the Chartered Governance Institute UK & Ireland. He has held posts with several listed and large private companies and has over 30 years’ experience as a corporate, commercial and finance lawyer at law firms and major organisations in the UK, New Zealand and internationally.

Anthony is a Finance Associate at Gridworks. He has a wealth of experience working across multiple industries including construction, television, and marketing. Most recently, Anthony worked for the marketing agency Digital Natives as a Finance Manager, where he introduced models to aid resource planning and monitor financial KPIs. Anthony holds a BA in Accounting & Finance from Middlesex University.

Daire is an ESG Associate at Gridworks. She supports environmental, social and governance management of our pprtfolio companies. Daire studied in Ireland where she obtained a BSc in Marketing and a Master's in Education from Trinity College Dublin. Before joining Gridworks she worked as an Economics and Business Teacher in Hertfordshire.

Zakiya is the EA and Team Assistant directly supporting our CEO, Simon Hodson. Zakiya brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in business support from the Tech industry and Higher Education. Prior to joining Gridworks, Zakiya worked at Meta as an Executive Administrative Partner. Zakiya has a BA in International Relations from the University of Birmingham.

Patrick has been Chief Executive of Charity Bank, a UK regulated deposit-taking bank with a social purpose, and of UK Export Finance, the UK Government's export credit agency. Before that he was the managing director of Emerging Africa Advisers, the manager of the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund. This followed twenty-six years in international export, project and trade finance at Morgan Grenfell & Co. Limited and Deutsche Bank AG London where he was a managing director and the global head of export and project finance.

Chanda Nxumalo is an electrical engineer with 20 years of experience in the renewables, power and infrastructure sector, and specifically in the wind, solar, hydro, and energy storage fields. She is the Managing Director and Founder of Harmattan Renewables, a consultancy advising investors, lenders and developers looking at entering Africa’s renewables market.

A British and South African citizen, Chanda has extensive Non-Executive Director experience in the power and energy sector with a focus on the energy transition and the move to net zero. She sits on several boards, including Exxaro Resources Ltd.

Alan Muir has over 40 years’ experience in the power industry, of which almost 30 have been in Africa. He has led and financed some of the largest energy transactions and independent power projects in the UK, Europe, and Africa. He is currently the Chairman of Azura Power, having served as its CEO between 2016 and 2025. He oversaw the expansion of the company into a multinational power provider operating in Nigeria, Senegal and Mozambique, with over 750MW of operating capacity and more than 1.5GW under development.

Having trained as a Chartered Engineer, Alan’s earlier career includes power plant operations, mergers and acquisitions, project finance, and privatisations. Before joining Azura Power he was Managing Director of Fieldstone Private Capital Group where he was responsible for advising on a series of major African infrastructure projects.

Stewart is a Non-Executive Director at Gridworks. Stewart previously worked for GIC (the Singapore government sovereign wealth fund) based in Singapore as part of their portfolio group, sitting on boards in India, China and the UK. Prior to GIC, Stewart worked for IFC, based in Washington DC, reviewing projects in the manufacturing area and spending 18 months in their office in Chengdu, China. Outside of Gridworks Stewart is a Senior Advisor for Bamboo Capital Partners where he is managing investments in off grid electrification in Africa and Haiti. Stewart has a Physics degree from Oxford and an MBA from the London Business School.

Richard Charlton is Head of Infrastructure Equity for Africa and Pakistan at British International Investment (BII). He has 17 years’ experience in infrastructure and in emerging markets, the last 12 of which have been at BII. He has also worked for PwC in the infrastructure and banking sectors. Richard sits on a number of other boards and investment committees of BII investees in the power and ports sectors. Richard has lived and worked in the UK, Kenya, Malawi and India. He holds an ACA from the ICAEW, and master's degrees from Cambridge and Oxford Universities.

Saad is an Investment Director in the Infrastructure Equity Team at BII. He has over 17 years of experience in the infrastructure and energy space and is responsible for leading investments across T&D, renewables and water utilities in Africa and Pakistan. Prior to joining BII, Saad was at HgCapital focusing on investing in renewable energy projects across Europe and at Citigroup where he advised on infrastructure and energy projects in Europe, Middle East and Africa. Saad has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BSc (Hons) in Economics from the London School of Economics.

Robert is a Non-Executive Director at Gridworks. He is also a non-executive director of the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland. His background is in utility management and regulation, asset management and management consulting. In utilities, he held various senior management roles in ESB and ESB International, both in Ireland and overseas, including over 7 years onsite experience in Sub Saharan Africa. He managed the transition of Northern Ireland Electricity into new ownership following its acquisition by ESB, then becoming an executive director. Previous non-executive positions were two terms as Chair of Lagan Valley Regional Park, and NED at Drogheda Port. In consulting, Robert led KPMG's Strategy and Performance Improvement practice in Ireland, going on to found a leading Irish boutique consulting and interim management company. He holds an MBA from the Smurfit School at University College Dublin and is a graduate electrical engineer. He is a Chartered Director and a member of both the Institute of Directors and the Institute of Engineering and Technology.
